I was so excited to have all of our family to our home this year. Mainly because finally we were able to cater for more than 3 people in our new house, built and moved into only 6 months ago! We spent Christmas Day with our inlaws and kept last weekend free for a ‘Wixon get-together’. We also celebrated my sister Ainsleigh (25th) and our Grandad’s (80th) birthday’s, from days previous.
So 15 adults and one toddler later, we were on our way to having a blast of a day. I had spent a good portion of Nov 2011 scouring Ebay for ‘lawn games’ to play providing the weather was decent, and yes it was. A breezy 26 degree day, overcast but not threatening. Our three Border Collies had their eyes on ANY ball they could, even hiding one of our Croquet balls in the end – I’m still searching for it!
A mad panic to get lunch ready, a hustle to get the best chair at the table in between the 2 platters of freshly cooked mudcrabs (thanks to Andy), party hats, bad jokes, etc etc. Full bellies, a bit of waddling to the lounge room to open our Secret Santa pressies and then some even retired for Nanna Naps!
We played Croquet, Cricket (until Ben snapped the bat in half) and then Warwick dragged out the Clay Pidgeon shooting. How much fun! Having not shot a shotgun for a few years, I was a bit rusty to start but certainly picked it up again quickly, proudly beating Andy’s score of NIL ! I did gain a few neat little bruises for my efforts. I have to say my sister Teneale and I looked very lady-like in our party dresses!
Toasted sangas and proffertjies for dinner/dessert and then a game of Articulate. Bed by 10.30pm.
Days like these certainly bring home to me how much I love my family and the relationships we have with each other. I am also reminded how much we miss spending time with each other. Looking forward to our May long weekend family reunion now~![]()
Enjoy!
