Think back to all the other photography sessions you’ve ever experienced. Next, FORGET all of those old sessions! I’m going to show you something totally new and different. Plan on setting aside anywhere up to one hour or more for our session. I always take a little time to get to know my models before I pull out the camera. We talk…we play…we laugh…we practice…it helps everyone loosen up a bit and lends itself to more natural images in the end. And it’s just plain fun!
I’m very laid back in my style, and this approach is what makes children and adults alike more comfortable and willing to open up to the camera. The best images come when I’m just playing and talking with a child, or when Mum, Dad & kids are interacting as if I weren’t even there. I’ve got lots of tricks up my sleeve to get the natural expressions without much posing or direction.
Sessions can be in the Studio for certain circumstances, but mainly we choose a outside location. I can even come to you. Your home is a perfect option, even if you have an old shed and a spare couple of acres is even better; children are surrounded with their beloved toys and treasures at home or family pet, and they love sharing those with me. I also have many favourite locations all around the area if your home isn’t the best option.
I always love to hear your ideas and suggestions for what you’d like to see in your portraits, so feel free to discuss them with me ahead of time. I’m doing this for you, so of course I’m going to do my very best to give you images that you love! I love to style your portrait sessions too. I will have a chat with you to learn more about your family and design a session personally suited to you. Pinterest is a wonderful resource for styled photography and ideas for what to wear.
Time of day… I’m constantly reminding my husband that I don’t get this wrinkle free skin by working outside all the time! No but seriously, the best time of day is late afternoon, usually in the last 1-2 hours of daylight. I know kids can sometimes go feral in these hours, but that’s what snacks and cordial is for!
What to wear… For tiny babies, less is best. Nothing at all or simply a nappy is perfect. For all ages, clothing should be simple. No big logos, please. Solid, dark to mid-tone colours without busy patterns are great. Jeans are great and generic, plus nearly everyone should have a pair in their wardrobe. Also, silly hats, favourite blankets and pretty hair bows make wonderful little touches that help to make your pictures fun and personal. I will be more than happy to help you make your clothing choices, so just ask! My natural style does not mix well with dressy or fancy outfits. Remember, we are down in the grass or running around playing a good part of the time – would you wear your Sunday best to play in the grass? However, again we can theme your session to suit should you wish for ‘something a little left of centre.’
Shoes… Bare feet are fun and natural, especially when children are getting photographed. Bare feet are a must when the weather permits! And don’t be surprised when I kick off my shoes, too. If I’ve not spent a good part of our session down on the ground getting my knees and feet dirty, then I’ve not done what I’ve come to do!
Session Fee… $120 for your choice of location within the Gympie area is due at the time of the session. Session fee includes my time and talent, post processing and ordering appointment. Portraits are sold separately & start at $120. Digital files come complimentary with each portrait image you purchase. A Travel fee is applied if session location is outside of the Gympie area.
Portrait sessions are available for Rainbow Beach as well. Saturday and Public Holiday surcharges apply.
The Studio is closed Sunday & Monday.
